Entering the world of design over twenty years ago was an exhilarating adventure that started with a simple love for photography. This passion led me through a diverse career, crossing paths with numerous industries, including manufacturing and retail. Despite my extensive skill set, I often felt overlooked. Ultimately, this motivated me to launch my own venture, CBird CREATIVE.
In this article, I share my experiences—both highs and lows—offering insights and encouragement to fellow creatives who may feel undervalued as they navigate their own journeys.
The Early Days: Discovering My Passion
I began my career in the vibrant world of photography, capturing moments that told stories. This exploration ignited my creative spark and encouraged me to experiment with different mediums. From photography, I transitioned into web design and graphic design, learning to view the world uniquely and develop innovative solutions.

Learning to navigate different industries challenged me, but it also pushed me to adapt my skills to meet diverse demands. My journey in these early days taught me the importance of resilience in the face of undervaluation.

The Versatile Designer
As my career progressed, I transformed into a versatile designer, stepping into roles such as motion graphics designer, video editor, packaging designer, and content creator. My portfolio flourished with diverse projects, yet I struggled with feeling truly valued.
For example, in a previous role, I was hired to design a packaging solution but ended up developing the marketing strategy and creating promotional graphics, showcasing my ability to multitask. While the variety of work stimulated my creativity, it eventually led to burnout and a nagging question: Why do others see my potential but not the companies hiring me?

This sense of undervaluation prompted me to reassess my career direction and seek solutions where my talents would be genuinely appreciated.
The Realization: Taking Control
The turning point came when I acknowledged that true recognition for my work required seizing control of my career. This epiphany inspired me to create CBird CREATIVE, a platform for my diverse talents to shine without restraints.
Launching my own venture has been liberating. Today, I face new challenges that push my creative boundaries daily. This opportunity allowed me to embrace all my passions—from design to strategic ideation—leading me to reconnect with the joy that first attracted me to photography and design.

Shifting Perspectives: A Continuous Journey
Throughout my journey, I have learned that the creative landscape is continually evolving. Trends shift rapidly; what is trendy today may lose relevance tomorrow. This constant change keeps us alert, ensuring that, as designers, we must innovate and adapt.
My varied experiences in different sectors have provided me with valuable insights on crafting tailored solutions for clients. This customized approach helps distinguish my work from others. I emphasize collaboration, which has been pivotal for my success and that of my clients. For example, working closely with clients allows me to understand their unique needs, leading to projects that resonate powerfully with their audiences.

Resilience has also played a crucial role, enabling me to tackle challenges that arise in this unpredictable industry. Positive adaptability ensures I remain relevant and consistently deliver high-quality work across various media.
The Value of Community
One of the most significant lessons I’ve learned is the value of community among creatives. Building connections with others facing similar experiences fosters a sense of belonging that can enhance collaboration and ultimately lead to exceptional outcomes.
Networking within the creative industry has been invaluable. By seeking mentors and discussing the challenges we face, I’ve empowered myself. For example, participating in design meetups allowed me to learn new techniques and build supportive relationships that have been crucial in navigating the freelance landscape.

Embracing Your Worth
As I reflect on my two-decade journey in various creative fields, I realize that pursuing recognition for one's work is essential. The experience of establishing CBird CREATIVE gave me insights into the challenges and boundless opportunities in the design world.
